What are showcase's and where can i find one in NY?

so im trying to find an agent and people keep saying send your resume and head shot out or go to showcases well i did the first one like two weeks ago but i dont just want to wail and wait i want to try as many ways to get an agent as i can so dose any one know what it mens or where/how i can find them live by New york City?
